Death Valley Spring 2005
on Jan 12th 2008 05:56 am
Exceptional winter rains brought exceptional flowering and beauty to this supposedly dread place. The spectacle was the most outstanding in 50 years.
Here is the ultimate proof there can be water in Death Valley. One thing that most impressed us was the awesome SIZE of this valley. It’s staggering in length, breadth and depth. The mountains to the west rise to over 11,000 feet in the distance. Yet the road here is well below sea level).
That’s Viv’s arm, pointing to a plaque 230 feet up the cliff behind us: that’s sea level!
Surely this is not desert?
These are (wild) sunflowers
However the winners were the Evening Primroses - billions of them!
